Booking Conditions - Courses and Tuition
- A deposit of £20.00 per person is required to secure a booking.
- The balance of the course fee is due 30 days before the start date.
- If you cancel a booking more than 30 days before the start date, the course fee will be refunded. No refund is made when cancellation is less than 30 days before the course starts. You are advised to take out your own insurance to cover cancellation costs.
- If weather conditions, or other factors, prevent sailing taking place, we will either provide shore-based teaching, or arrange an alternative date, as appropriate.
- In the event of cancellation or postponement of a session by us, tuition fees will not be refunded, but an alternative date will be offered, or a credit note issued.
- Sailing can be hazardous by its nature, and students, parents and guardians must accept that there are risks involved in participating in this activity.
- Shell Bay Sailing does not accept responsibility for any loss, damage, or injury suffered by persons and/or their property arising out of sailing and related activities.
- We provide buoyancy aids and spray-tops are available if required. It is your responsibility to bring suitable clothing, including footwear and we reserve the right to refuse access to practical sessions if students are not adequately prepared. Please contact us if you need advice on what to bring.
Booking Conditions - Boat hire:
- Hire fees must be paid in full, prior to use.
- The hirer must have RYA Basics Skills or be able to demonstrate competence to that level. If we judge that a hirer is not to the required standard we reserve the right to end the hire session or restrict the hirer to a reduced sailing area close to shore.
- The hirer must remain within the specified sailing area and comply with instructions from Shell Bay Sailing staff. This area will be defined on the day of hire depending on tide and weather conditions and on our assessment of the competence of the hirer.
- The minimum age for hiring a boat is 16 years.
- Boats must have a competent sailor on board at all times.
- Buoyancy aids are supplied by the centre and must be worn by all persons throughout the hire session.
- The hirer agrees to pay the insurance excess of £100 in the event of damage to the boat or equipment.
- A hire session may be reserved without pre-payment on the day before the hire. Reserved hire session start times are 10:00hrs and 13:00hrs. The reservation will be held until 30 minutes after the start time. After this the boat may not be available if there are other hirers wishing to use it.
- The centre reserves the right to cancel or postpone a hire session if weather conditions or other factors make this necessary.
